T’ai-Chi Ch’uan
The Ultimate, Supreme form of Boxing
Exercise, Meditation and Martial Art

The new courses start on Wednesday 3 September and Thursday 25 September. People new to T’ai-Chi are welcome to come to the one of first sessions to see if this form of movement, and the teacher, is suitable for them.

I was the founder and Principal of The Isleworth School of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan for 17 years. I moved into the Monmouth area last year and initiated Relaxing the Mind T’ai-Chi last year.

My experience and years of practice ensures that each student receives the best guidance possible in this healing, balancing and strengthening philosophy of movement and self-defence.

The class itself is split into three sections:

Warm-up or Chi Kung exercises: a set of exercises to relax the body, calm the mind and stimulate one's natural energy - chi.

The Form: this is the Yang style Short Form of Cheng Man-ch'ing. The Form is a continuous sequence of postures that is learned posture by posture. Each week the previous two or three postures are revised - especially useful for students who have missed a class or two and then learn a new one. By working from the mind, through natural movements of the body, we learn to understand relaxation, to interpret energy and to apply this knowledge to our everyday lives.

Partner work: this is the part of T'ai Chi that allows us to work on the principles in relation to another person.

Regular practice of this slow, flowing technique calms the mind, strengthens the back and legs, improves balance, circulation and bone density. T’ai-Chi is ideal for people of all ages and degrees of fitness. The classes offer relaxation techniques, body strengthening and gentle stretching, all achieved through practicing the healing movements and breathing exercises.

I passed the running of The Isleworth School of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan to long-term students Chris Pippard and Linda Tillman. For details of the regular classes in Isleworth go to The Isleworth School of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan

Sue Weston
T’ai-Chi came into my life in 1986 after an injury prevented me from continuing my dancing career. My first T’ai-Chi teacher was Dr John Kells of The British Association of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan. In 1990 I started The Isleworth School of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan in West London which I handed over to my two senior students Chris Pippard and Linda Tillman on moving to the Monmouth area in 2007. (For details of the regular classes in Iselworth go to The Isleworth School of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan). My early career was in dance working in theatre, TV and film as a performer, choreographer and director in the UK and internationally. I have worked with many different groups using T’ai-Chi Ch’uan, theatre, dance and other skills here in the UK and abroad, most recently with tsunami and war affected communities in Sri Lanka where I was awarded an honorary doctorate for my contribution over the past 12 years towards humanitarian projects. In 1999/2000 I took a year off to help deepen my meditation practice to be in retreat on Holy Isle, where each year I lead a Qigong & Meditation Retreat Week.
