Qigong & Meditation Retreat, Holy Isle, Scotland

Wednesday 20 August - Wednesday 27 August 2008

Retreat, relax and revive in peaceful and beautiful surroundings on a week of retreat learning and practicing Chinese Medical Qigong and meditation.

"The week of meditation on Holy Island was a marvellous antidote to the stresses and strains of 21st century living. It provided a wonderful mixture of spiritual uplift, exercise and relaxation, all in an atmosphere of great companionship. Mornings and evenings were spent in meditation and T'ai-Chi, led by the inestimable Sue Weston, whose leadership and compassion offered us all a chance to learn and grow." Barbara Muston, Participant, 2005

Holy Island (adjacent to the Isle of Arran, West Scotland) is an environmental and spiritual sanctuary dedicated to world peace and health where Sue recently spent a year in retreat. The Qigong & Meditation residential week offers simple and gentle skills and practices that aid relaxation, extend physical intelligence and grow a lifelong spiritual journey. In the morning and evening we hold practical sessions of meditation, relaxation and bodywork that go directly to the heart of Chinese Medical Qigong. Each afternoon is free for participants to explore and enjoy the beauty and unspoilt nature of Holy Isle. The course is open to beginners and experienced practitioners.

Holy Isle is blessed with a rich unspoilt natural heritage. Rare plants and wild flowers flourish in the Gulf Stream climate. It is home to a wide variety of birds and wild animals: horses, goats and sheep. The Island's protected coastal waters attract several species of seals, dolphins and even the odd basking shark. The newly completed Centre offers comfortable well-appointed single, twin or dormitory rooms. Full board accommodation is provided and the vegetarian meals use Island grown organic produce when possible from the peaceful and productive Mandala Garden.

Sue led the first ever week of retreat in the newly completed Centre for World Peace and Health in August 2003. Here is some of the feedback from the participating group:
It (Qigong & Meditation Retreat) has surpassed my expectations. I have liked the balance of activities: physical movement, relaxation, discussion and meditation. I have found particularly useful Sue's advice and knowledge about meditation.N.G. Aug 2003
What a great week! I have come away not only feeling relaxed and energised, but with a much deeper understanding of myself and life. Inspiring. Thank you. A W, Holy Isle, August 2004

Sue Weston
T’ai-Chi came into my life in 1986 after an injury prevented me from continuing my dancing career. My first T’ai-Chi teacher was Dr John Kells of The British Association of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan. In 1990 I started The Isleworth School of T’ai-Chi Ch’uan in West London which I handed over to my two senior students on moving to the Monmouth area in 2007. My early career was in dance working in theatre, TV and film as a performer, choreographer and director in the UK and internationally. I have worked with many different groups using T’ai-Chi Ch’uan, theatre, dance and other skills here in the UK and abroad, most recently with tsunami and war affected communities in Sri Lanka where I was awarded an honorary doctorate for my contribution over the past 12 years towards humanitarian projects. In 1999/2000 I took a year off to be in retreat on Holy Isle to help deepen my meditation practice. Each year I lead a Qigong & Meditation Retreat Week on Holy Isle.
